Chief Executive South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, Wye Valley NHS Trust and George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated community and acute provider encompassing acute and community hospitals and a wide range of out of hospital services. In 2017 the Trust created a ‘Foundation Group’ in partnership with Wye Valley NHS Trust in Herefordshire. In 2018, George Elliot Hospital NHS Trust joined the Group creating a chain of separate but similar Trusts with a common strategy, sharing best practice but retaining their organisational identities.

Glen began his NHS career in 1983 as a finance trainee, qualifying as a Chartered Public Finance Accountant in 1990. After reaching the position of Director of Finance for South of Warwickshire Mental Health Services NHS Trust, he moved into an acute operational role when he became Director of Operations for the Surgical Division of University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

In 2003 he was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and joined South Warwickshire in 2006, initially as interim Chief Executive and then formally appointed in 2008. In addition, Glen became Chief Executive of Wye Valley NHS Trust in December 2016 and Chief Executive of George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust in July 2018.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has developed a National reputation for effective ‘System Flow’ in urgent and emergency care originating from the Health Foundation Acute Flow Project. As a consequence, between 2015 and 2017, in addition to his Trust role, Glen was the national SRO overseeing the creation of the Emergency Care Improvement Programme before transferring it into the newly created NHS Improvement.

In 2019 South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust became the first Midlands General Acute Provider to achieve an Outstanding Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating. In 2018/19 Wye Valley NHS Trust recorded the greatest improvement in mortality of any NHS Provider. George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust also progressed in its journey of improvement including removal of challenged provider status in the same year.
